On Feb 17, 2011, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nathan Fillion said: “If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it on my own, and distribute it on the Internet.”
The Plan:
Phase 1) Generate momentum. We’re going to setup a way people can pledge funding towards the mission of putting the rights to Firefly back into the hands of people who care about it. Since Nathan said he’d be game to be those hands, we’re going to watch for …
Phase 2) Nathan chimes in towards us and approves the effort. At that point, it’s a real mission and we’ll switch into…
Phase 3) We’ll setup a way for the funding to be collected into a Non-Profit Organization. We’ll then want everyone to make good on their pledge and contribute.
Throughout all of this, we’ll have up the running tally of pledges and actuals.
How Can You Help?
Like and Share our Facebook page. We’ll get a Twitter setup today as well. Tweet about this page via #HNBF #Firefly! Here’s a short URL for that purpose: http://dft.ba/-firefly

Ya’ll should set up a Kickstarted when/if Nathan Fillion actually chimes in with support. That way, if the goal is never met, no money actually goes anywhere, and if it is met, huzzah!
This could be the tipping point of the next big thing in media. The idea of fan based funding isn’t new and many artists on their own or through efforts like kickstart have funded their efforts. Musicians offering fans a bonus ep or access to a special event for funding the production of the musician’s next album, is not unheard of. If this can be done and done right, lots of intellectual property currently gathering dust or neglected can be resurrected by the fans. I’d love to see Buckaroo Banzi come back.
Put the money in escrow until the goal is achieved, and offer donaters levels with rewards. Say not just being on of list of thank you at the end of the show or movie credits but;
$0 – $50: access to a production blogs and a signed thank you cast photo
$50 – $100: access to production videos and back stage videos and the of the above
$100-$500: personalize happy birthday video from one of the cast and all of the above
$1000-$5000: sneak peak of shows or movie the day before release over the internet and all of the above
$5000 – $10000: attend a sneak peak hosted by the cast pilot episode or movie l and all of the above
$25000 – $50000: nonspeaking extra roll and all of the above
$50000 and above: keep your outfit from the extra roll; blue ray recording of all shows or movie the day after release; attend a release party with a big name band, cast and crew; and all of the above.
What every is done do it right by the fans and realize this could be the start of a new away to finance movies and television that isn’t based on ratings, box office taking or if some stiff suited hollywood executive monkey likes the show but shows and movies existing because they are loved by the fans and the fans are involved.
This is the greatest idea EVER! I cannot wait to pledge! BROWNCOATS FOREVER!
Keep Flying Browncoats!!!
I’m in, lets misbehave!
I pledge $100 an episode!
I’m in
I don’t even like TV nowadays, but this show rocked! I pledge to donate right now.
I’m in! I am still feeling withdrawal symptoms…
Honestly, (and I’m sorry to say it) this is a horrible idea. The reward for donating is getting our show back on the air. I’m in for a good chunk of change, but I don’t want money that could be going toward more episodes going to reward me for donating. While I’d love to meet the cast and hang out, I don’t want the money that it would cost to hire a ‘big name band’ being taken away from the show. Give away the costumes/extra roles? Maybe that would be good, but keep it on the cheap. Let the money stay where its really needed.
So no, I don’t think donations should be rewarded with fancy shindigs and the like. I just want Serenity to fly out into the black one more time.
-Can’t stop the signal.
I agree with ReynardGrae. The funds should be invested into getting Serenity up in the air and not into rewards.
Having the show back? I don’t need anything else.
And I’m in too.
This has to happen soon – or we’ll be celebrating/mourning the ten year anniversary of the cancellation of firefly http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/event.php?eid=151431644876429
Anyway I think it’ll be a bit like Red Dwarf coming back – even without the spark of the original series it had ratings through the wazoo – what the @#$# was anyone thinking cancelling such a great show? Besides – this some sort of paid internet format is probably going to be the way of the future in terms of paying writers, actors etc for great shows instead of mass market bilge at the lowest price.
Shiny! I’m in. I could probably scrape together $100.
Count me in!!!
I’m in!
Love the plan. I’m in for $500.
LOVE IT!!! Serenity is one of my favorite movies…
I’m in for $250. We need to get Joss Whedon on board. After all, he created this thing. With his muscle, and our horde, how can we not prevail?
“Make it so”
I’m good for $50.
totally in! $100 minimum!!
I’m in for $1,000 if it happens.
We are totally in on the contribution! At least $100.00.
We need a better way to log the monies and such. But for now I guess i’m in for $200.
There is nothing I love more than Firefly. If Castle ever takes a break (like Christmas or summer) I always watch Firefly and Serenity to get my Nathan fix. My whole family watches Firefly and I got every single on of my friends to watch it (and then buy it) too. Oh Firefly, you’ve been gone too long. I’m in to pledge. Jsut say the word.
There was a joke on Community that aired Feb 17 (5:20 minutes in) “If one of us dies, we stage it to look like a suicide caused by the unjust cancellation of Firefly. (to camera) We’re going to get that show back on the air, buddy” Is it just me or does the timing seem unbelievably fortuitous?
I DVR every episode of Community. I actually rewound because I almost missed that. I love how so many people love this show. I mean, at least 3 shows have referenced Firefly. Battlestar Galactica, Castle, and Community. We will at least get another movie.
Are you guys hitting up all the Cons? thats where you’re gonna get the most hype.. For instance in a few weeks, MomoCon will be held in Atlanta,Ga. Thousands of people will be walking around looking for stuff to spend money on.. if you had a donation booth, and gave out buttons or something.. you could start producing profit for the renewal of Firefly.
I just checked out what MoMo Con is about and that would be a fantastic idea. Definetly going to be there. (plus it’s a good oppertunity to meet with some people that have similar intrest)
Just offering my two cents regarding your fundraising. The website Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/) might be the best way to go.
Yeah, Kickstarter.com would be perfect to facilitate this. Maybe Mr Fillion should set this up
I think if you (owner of this site) were to start the kickstarter now.. Nathan would be moved enough to start into this.. If there were some actual movement, I’d bet Joss and others would band together too..
If not to bring it back on the airwaves (preferred) at least a second movie..
.. No, wait.. maybe not a second movie.. I don’t want them killing off more of my fav characters.
(yes, I know.. It’s been years, but still working through the grieving process.
Yeah, Kickstarter would be a great way to do it.
Lets all twitter that to nathan.
I will miss some of the old cast, Wash and Shepherd Book, but man it would be sweet to get this show back on the air. Now if they can put it in a timeslot that corresponds to it’s demographic they will resurrect this show like they did Family Guy. Now all we have to do is get “V” cancelled so that everyone has a reason to come back
…they didn’t really die…
V was cancelled…..
Uh, no it wasn’t, at least not as of today (2/23)
I am so ruttin in! $60 gorram it!
No joke, I’d pay $50+ for this. Given proof of no funny business, $200 ($300 if Whedon is on board)
Bring back Firefly! I’m willing to pay for it.
Dude,
This is a great site. http://www.majorgeeks.com would totally get behind this. They aren’t a monster but definitely top 150K unique visitors per day.
The first thing I would do is to start a signup page of people willing to pay to see firefly.
You got $100 from me. More if I can afford it when the time comes. Browncoat forever.
you might want to check out savebluelikejazz.com — they raised more than $300,000 to finish producing their film (which was based on a book), so this model is doable. And I agree that even if the end goal is not reached (i.e. Nathan buying the rights), then the true goal can be reached, i.e. getting Fox to see that this is a franchise worth rebooting which has a steady enough fan-base to prove lucrative (hello, have you seen those made for DVD Stargate films?). P.S. Since I heard about this on EW I wonder if they would be willing to do one of their famous polls (and maybe other Sci Fi sites can follow suite). Another way to generate and quantify interest at the same time… my two cents
$300 if Joss is involved
The Captain and the original crew would be awesome to return. I have missed that show my friends have and we all would like to have it back. Will help with what I can afford.
perhaps we can get a real number vs $300M
I’d definately offer up a sizable donation if Josh agreed to get invovled.
has a place to donate been set up? put me down for a c-note.
I’m in for $300.
Like above post, if you could be sure the money was going to The Firefly Ressurection! I would be on board for donating. Loved the show and movie!
39 Million got Serenity made, that ought to be enough to get this project off the ground. If something real happens, I’m onboard!
I’ll pledge what I can…
You can’t stop the signal!!!
Count me in, I support the return of Firefly if not movies. Lets do it.
Hell yes I would pay for the priveledge to get Firefly back from the Alliance!
You definitely need to use Kickstarter!
Might also help if A possible “I helped save Firefly” t-shirt was up for grabs in exchange for the money???!!!
I agree! I’d love to not only help, but also advertise for Firefly
I’d go in for $200. Maybe more if they get nearly all the same cast and Whedon gets to exercise his creative freedom.
I’m in!
I’m in!!!
This is awesome!
Okay, I’m not sure how to actually pledge (don’t see a button/link), so I hope this counts. Count me in for $100.00 (at least).
Ill match that!
I’ll pledge 20$. Every bit helps! (And then later, I’ll buy the overpriced DVD collection in higher quality than the free webseries.)
DEFINITELY do Kickstarter. That way it’s a real representation.
You can count me in on a pledge! I’d do a fair value pledge with no further committment than what is on the table now. If you get a strong committment from Joss to work the project, or from Nathan to pursue the purchase…
Scanning the posts above it appears that a ‘standard’ value is forming. I’ll pledge $50 with no further committments from Joss or Nathan, I’ll pledge $300 if you get a committment on the project.
(I like the idea of a reward for donors, perhaps with donations of $300 or more donors receive a promise of a free ‘Browncoats Edition’ release of the second season of Firefly, only available to donors. To be released at an unknown future date of course…)
Yeah, I also think Kickstarer would be a good idea!
I’m in for 100, more if it’s non-profit. I’d go in for 1k or more if I could invest in a movie or something..
I would pledge $100, i’m a teen working at a coffeeshop, can’t do much more -.-
Shiny!
Ok, count me in. Loved the characters and the uniqueness of the series.
I’m in! You get Whedon or Fillion or some other big name to produce it and we’ll figure out how to get the cash. Hell, if I have to go door to door selling t-shirts or whatnot, I will!
I would gladly help fund another movie or more episodes… without a doubt. I would just require some verifiable accountability on the people who are collecting the funds. If its all above board I’m in with as many dollars as I can part with. If we got 100k people to give $500 that is 50 million… which is enough to get another Serenity movie made.
I would say that it would probably be better for the foundation to help get something made, but then get paid back its investment. So if we raise the money, invest it in more Firefly or Serenity, the foundation will recoup the money it puts in so it can go to make more and more movies. So the studio in question will make profits and we Browncoats can keep getting the stuff we love.
Hey all, I don’t know if you saw this, but CNN just put a piece up about you guys!
http://edition.cnn.com/2011/TECH/web/02/23/bring.back.firefly/index.html
You def have my support!
I got $20 bucks with Nathan’s name on it right here. Do it!!!
Hubby & I have attended ‘Can’t Stop the Serenity’ every year for about 4 yrs running. It’s an event at a local movie theater where they play the movie (usually preceded by Dr Horrible) and have a raffle and auction, all to benefit charity. We usually spend a few hundred dollars each time if you include the ticket price, food, raffle tickets, and auction. For a chance to see new episodes or another movie we’d spend a whole lot more than that!
Not a man of great means, but I can certainly find something to contribute when the time comes.
CNN picked up the story this morning http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/web/02/23/bring.back.firefly/index.html?hpt=C2
I’ll put in at least $40! Keep Flying!
I’m hip to contribute as much as I can afford. Especially if it means Jewel Staite will have dinner with me!
This would be awesome a total takeover by fans and actors. Will be glad to help this project. Will be happy to be part of any fundraiser. Available to walk across the USA to raise awareness and funding.
I spoke with some fellow college friends we will raise funds together we can promise $1k to $2k and they will gladly help me make a cross country trek to raise funds. so let me know when you get this really rolling and we will make it happen.
We want Firefly! Sell stock. Sell raffles!
StarTrek TNG worked for years Syndicated. They don’t want to carry it, SOMEONE will! Hey… the firefly channel on cable/ Maybe a slot on scifi’s rotation? SOMETHING! I WANT MY BROWNCOATS IN SPACE!
I’m ready to dump some money into this.
Nathan, I cannot speak for others, but I would whole heartedly support any effort to bring Firefly back into production. If you need someone to coordinate a Firefly rally in Texas, I’m your man! Who is with me?
Bill
truetexan@hotmail.com
Texan here – Ready and willing to do whatever it takes!
Count me in!! This is one of the best shows ever! I would definately help resurrect Firefly.
For this project I can promise $100 when it kicks off, and a good chunk of change every month after that. Come on, Mr. Whedon and Mr. Fillion, the money is here. Now we just need the talent.
I have already told everyone I know and news of this is spreading very fast… keep this going
Another option would be instead of donations per say make it a fan owned product. Firefly could be the Packers of video. Just have Nathan be ceo of it ;P
I’m a broke college student, but I’d give what I could!
we’re gunna get that show back on the air, buddy
I like the sell stocks idea! Take the show public! It’s never been done before, so go crazy and run with it.
I’m in. Will contribute as much as I can (translation: as much as wife allows) and help out however I can.
IM IN!!!!!, i miss this show alot. it kinda like, filled a void in my life… one that was left from when Alf went of the air. COME ON FLYFLY!
After all the box sets, comics, t-shirts and even the copy of “Browncoats: Redemption” I’ve bought, I’m definitely in for some cashy-money!
I would gladly give cash and lobby known fans
I’m in.
“Ship like this, be with ya ’til the day you die”
I’ll pledge what I can when the time comes.
In the same vein as many others, I’d be in for up to a couple hundred depending on the legitimacy of donation method and actor/Whedon involvement
Definately like the idea of a t-shirt. Do something where if you make a donation you can get one or just sell them for $50 each.
Either way I’m in for $300 if the support from the big names are there.
One group I know of did something similar with http://savebluelikejazz.com/. They were able to raise enough money to get the movie made! And I feel like Firefly has a much bigger fan base – it can be done, folks! I’m in!
Count me in. I’ll buy T-shirts and whatever.
I’m in, I’d throw some money his way.
When the time comes I will pledge what I can.
If Capt, and Joss are on board I’m in!
when the time comes count me in. browncoats forever!!!
I’m definitely in!
If this becomes serious, I’m in for $200.00
I pledge $200 dollars. You can’t stop the signal.
If PBS (public broadcasting stations) can raise funds for their programing why can’t browncoats!!! I’m in. Please make the show series come back! Movie is cool too, but a weekly fix, WOW!
I would love to see the show come back. Watched Serenity first, loved it, then went back to watch the series. I would gladly contribute money (however small), shouldn’t have been canceled in the first place!
short and sweet; I’m in!
50 from me!!!
I would happily kick in $100.00 to help this happen.
I think it is a great idea. Count me in for $100/month I sill watch all the old episodes often and lend them out a lot too
There are also several groups who set up non-profits very inexpensive, they ill manage all the filing and paperwork to ensure it is done properly and the money goes where it is supposed to
good luck….keep me in the loop.
i’ll pay $100
Count me in for $200. Just let me know when we are ready to make this happen.
I’d be all about designing up a t-shirt to get some loot in!
I’d give 100. If its tax deductible I’ll give 1000.
I’m Steve Young of Mesa.
You get some of the previous Writers, Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, half of the remaining cast (Walsh & Book died in the movie) and Greg Edmonson and I’m in for $200.00. I’m a man of word and good for it. If the series took up in the timeline before the Movie,,, Walsh and Book could still participant.
I want to see the complete feel of the original. I own and watch(several times) the dvd’s including the interview about the cheesy zoom shots and difficulty that was to get in the CGI. The heart and soul of the music composition as well as the story telling. There were several things that came together to make that one season a cult classic like star trek, and all those things would need to be restored.
My real question is,,,,,,,Who was the moron at Fox that cancelled this show?
But Hell Ya, I’m In.
Steve
Yep, count me for 100 bucks. And I’m poor. But it’d be worth it.
DO IT!!!!!!!!!
I’m in for 50+
While you’re waiting to see if this pans out check out Browncoats: Redemption (www.browncoatsmovie.com)
I wasn’t involved in the making of this volunteer made “sequel” to the movie, but it’s pretty amazing and has cameo appearances by some of your favorite cast members (like Adam Baldwin who plays Jayne). Every purchase of this movie goes toward one of the major cast members’ favorite charities.
That said, I’m obviously in for as much as I can afford
I’m in. $300 from me and my family
Let me know when you have a donation site and I will be on board! One of my favorite shows, it needs to be back on the set.
What a great idea, everything has to start somewhere! Thanks for putting this together. I will pledge $100.00. I hope I get to donate it one day!
Count me in. Bring back Firefly. Whedon, get on board. Bring back the crew. Firefly was good and didn’t deserve to be canceled. I’m with you.
Love the enthusiasm! I just new the Firefly community would jump at that quote. I watched all episodes when I was downrange in Iraq. I was jonesing for more! I hope Castle, V and Chuck get cancelled and Mr. Fillian wins $350M. Bring back the series or at least 3 more films!
100 dollars, easily
Count me on board with my pocketbook in hand! Would LOVE to see firefly back on the air waves
Oooooh, This makes me so excited I can hardly contain myself. My dad has even said he would give some cash, and I certainly would!
I’m definitely in!!!
I’m in for at least a hundred!
The fan community is strong, but not 300 million dollars worth of strong.
What we need then is a way to entice donors, besides the fact that this would be the world’s biggest and best TV revival.
The idea of the amount you donate equaling bigger and better access to the cast and production pictures, etc, is a great one. Let people buy walk-on roles, etc. HOWEVER all of that is a moot point without a place to publish the show.
What we need is a commitment, however vague, from a major network, saying they would be interested in broadcasting the show, assuming it was created. Somehow I think HBO/SHOWTIME would be more interested than other networks, but SYFY or even FOX/NBC might be interested. A major letter writing campaign might facilitate a public response.
You got $100 from me if you can make this happen!
Imagine that – TV content that is TRULY fan driven.
Not only would I invest at least $100 in getting this started, I would happily pay a monthly subscription fee for new episodes if that’s what it takes to keep it going.
I’d be in for $200.
I’m in for $100!
I’d drop a 100$ or so to get this back on the air.
Saw your site on the CNN article. Put me down for $50!
I’m on a tight budget, but I would definitely be able to contribute to this fund. Even if I couldn’t contribute a large sum all at one time, I can afford $20 or $30 a month for a few months in a row, which would certainly add up.
I think this is a great idea, not only to support Firefly, but to encourage grassroots movements in general and reclaim the power of the people. I have written to Syfy to make sure they are aware of the movement.
I’ll definitely donate.
I am all for this. I can do $100 at least.
I am new to firefly fever, I just finished watching the series a few months ago, and I kept saying the whole time “WHY WAS THIS CANCELED THIS IS THE BEST TV I HAVE EVER SEEN” (yes I yelled it) put me down for $100
I’d certainly be in for 50$-$100 or in that range. This would be an interesting model for the studio to explore….
I’m game. Count me in for $50 to see Firefly continue.
Just think of the new xkcd comics!
http://xkcd.com/311/
Don’t I recall something from a few years ago when Joss said that for legal reasons he could not accept funding from fans? Fans have said before that they were wanting to donate for the cause.
Also, if Fox won’t sell, couldn’t the name just be changed, like with Serenity?
What would it be called? Transport Ship Resembling a Lightning Bug
I am totally up for this. I don’t have a ton of money, but I would pledge what I can. I love Nathan Fillion and the cast, as well as Joss Whedon. Bring It On.
Firefly was and is still, in my mind, one of the best TV series of all time. To have the original series aired in proper order would be awesome! I’d record and lock it forever.
To have a revival of the series with new episodes would be better than sex!
Count me in for $100 at least. I’d volunteer to write songs for the show gratis as well.
WE
Browncoats, unite!
Awesome idea. Definitely would contribute to a Kickstarter-like campaign. I’ve already helped fund one movie that is in post-production now, and a group of fans of a band I used to be in raised money for us to reunite and record material we didn’t get a chance to record (which then went up free in lossless format of course)!
I’d donate at least 100 bucks for this. But I doubt Fox would sell, they have no interest in fact are dead set against anything that inspires people to look beyond today for any future worth striving towards.
Hey, I’m living in LA.. Nathan lives here. Should I go find him and ask politely? =]
There is only way this will truely work though: You have to have Summer Glau back on board – she was the heart and soul of the series, She really is what drove the mystery. And of course we have to have Captain on board, but he’s already board, but I can’t picture Firefly being anywhere near interesting without Summer Glau! She’s an awsome “unhuman” actress.
I’m in for $25 – would be well worth it for even ONE more episode!
2012 = 10 year anniversary Firefly 2.0???? Yes, please.
I’m as poor as it gets (without actually being bankrupt), but if this gets real, I’ll pledge $500 in a heartbeat. Just sayin’.
I’d pay 200-300 dollars for firefly to be back on air.
I loved the show and would watch in on the internet and I’ve never watched a show on the nternet as of yet. Please bring back Firefly. It was a great show.
My wife and I are in. We would pay $.
$100 at least to get Firefly back from me
Yes, I would kick in some cheddar to get this great show back up and running.
I’d donate the $50-$60 dollars it would cost me to buy the DVDs if they made a webseries, and still buy the DVDs later if they released them.
Brilliant idea! Count me in. I’d do whatever it takes.
I am ALL OVER this. Browncoats UNITE!
I’ll pony up some money for this cause!
you can’t stop the signal……I am in if money is needed….
I aim to misbehave and would donate at least $200…..
I would totally throw cash at this, lets get it going!!!
How about you donate the money to charity instead? That would be a wonderful, glorious thing to do. Think of the people you could help – still with the name of Firefly, if you’d like, and the people behind it, both famous and passersby, could support worthy a cause.
Count me in for $150. I could go a bit higher with a bit of luck an dsome lead time.
Hell, yes! Count me in! I’d be willing to donate $100 (more if Joss jumps on board!)!
I’d do $50 a month for a year.
Put me down for $100 This can happen!
Why has the KICKSTARTER page not yet been started? – I figure someone has to explore the legal implications of collecting funds for purchasing an Intellectual Property like Serenity/Firefly from Universal – Can anyone here actually shed light on the process? – The sooner we know what we have to do, the sooner we can get fundraising and production!
great show, but as usual it got canceled and we have to watch what the majority of brain dead, low life earthlings watch instead, because there are more of them brain dead, low life earthlings out there, and they create the revenue. Bah humbug! Captain.
Who owns the rights now? And are they even for sale? (I know, everything’s for sale for the right price)
If we knew that buying the rights was even *possible*, I’d be in.
I would definitely donate per standards that are getting set above – up to $300.
Setup a Kickstarter page and lets get a web series going!
I’m down for $100 upfront and buying the seasons as they come out.
I’d be in for $50-100!
I will put $100 in
T-shirts and buttons are a great idea… I’ll pledge $100 now, more when this gets rolling, and I’ll make a point of advertising products for whatever corporate sponsorship we can garner. (Large Corporations do have advertising budgets, after all.)
Even an old fart like me will pitch in – my kid can live without braces. Let’s start with $100 and see how much else we need….
I’m in for $100…
Kick the tires and light the fires.
What goes around comes around. I started form asking about interest in a fan financed continuation of the story within 3 weeks of the show being canceled and before the sets were even destroyed: http://serenitymovie.net/directdvd.html (obviously online would make more sense now). Somewhere I’ve got a database full of responses (number in the 10s of thousands)
But hey count me in, I’m good for at least $1,000 per season.
I would absolutely put in $100 as a one time thing. More if I needed to buy episode by episdoe.
I’m in for $50-100!
I would gladly contribute 1k or more. It would be nice if a contribution could secure at least a reading of a potential story by the production team.
How about you hook up with some of the Firefly shirts and such and re-sell it here for a slight mark-up, mark-up going to the “charity”. I’d gladly pay a little extra knowing it is going toward the cause.
I would donate 100 if the following happened:
1: The core cast all committed to come back
2: The donations were gathered through a legit method (some have mentioned kickstarter)
3: A real number was made solid. Nathan said 300 mil. I highly doubt it would take that much…
4: Some operational costs were included in the goal so we can count on a certain number of episodes
I would so contribute $100 bucks to make this come true.
mark me down for $100
In for $100. Let’s bring it back
Definitely would be willing to contribute to this cause. I know atleast 20 other people who would be more than happy to as well. The more this spreads, the more heads you will turn.
Bring this show back! You have THE fanbase that will support you.
Would love to support this cause. Count me in.
Hey where do I pledge? Serenity was so much fun. Firefly needs to come back… the post-aughts are dismal.
I got a shiny $150 with the captain name on it.
I’ll gladly give $500
This would definitely be something I’d be interested in… Firefly was a great show that just never got the chance. Browncoats unite! I’d be willing to pony up between $50-$100 especially if most of the original cast returned as long as the money was being used legitimately. It would be well worth the price of admission!
I would gladly donate $20 per month for ever season it’s stays going!!
I would definitely donate $200 to this cause, once any definite legitimate donation page was set up. And I’m saying so here, because I’m a Facebook luddidte and haven’t registered on FB (although I’ll try to tell my other FB-using friends to join up with the group).
Nathan **is** aware of all of this going on (he just tweeted this — http://twitter.com/NathanFillion/status/40473820443705345) but I don’t know if he can officially come out in support of this project without Whedon’s blessing & co-involvement, and of course there’s the actual big box studios who own the rights and getting the studios to either give up the rights economically (or produce new shows) is totally another big unknown factor. But it’s sooo cool to see the “family” so passionate and agreeable to fans’ whims.
I’ve got $200 to help get this going!
You name the time, and my “mad money” is yours.
In his interview, Nathan said the two most common questions were No. 1, “Is there going to be more?” No. 2, “Why was it canceled?”
For the answer to No. 2, watch the film: Done The Impossible ( http://www.DoneTheImpossible.com ).
Sometimes they just do not give a show enought time to build a fan base this show has one now. Would be glad to see it on the air again.
I am the Director of Marketing at an American Black Walnuts supplier. I have a substantial advertising budget to work with this year and pledge that if Firefly gets back on the air I will buy advertising with it. Black Walnuts are an all-American product and this is an all-American show. If networks or studios need to know that advertisers will come on board with Captain Mal, let them know that Hammons Black Walnuts will buy ad time.
Shiny idea! I’m sure I could pony up $200.
I’ve never followed or posted on a Firefly fansite, and just randomly came across this through a news site. But I did watch the Firefly series, and would definitely support it again. I bet there are tons of casual supporters beyond the core fan base that would make this a very successful endeavor.
I would give money, but would be way more excited if it wasn’t a non-profit. I’d rather invest $5k and get $15k back when this turns into a huge success!
Would I donate money to get the greatest show that ever existed back on the air? I’d give $100 and buy every season as they come out.
If this works, it could get interesting… and not “Oh God, Oh God. We’re all gonna die” interesting.
Linky to a very favorite author of mine…
http://blog.patrickrothfuss.com/2011/02/an-open-letter-to-nathan-fillion/
Just let me know where to send the check!
Browncoats Forever!!
“When you can’t run anymore, you crawl… and when you can’t do that — You find someone to carry you.”
Best that was on, rivaled only by a few (ie;-Deadwood, that similarly got screwed)
From various comments I’ve read by the cast/crew over the years, it seems the vast majority would make serious moves in their schedules/lives to get a chance to do more firefly!
I Pledge allegence!
Mike
I’m in University now, so I’d pledge what I could. But if donations are still being asked for once I graduate this spring I can definitely promise at least $200!
I’ll kick some $$$$$ into the hat as long as Jane’s willin’ to bring the grenades!!!!
I AM SO THERE! Let’s be bad guys!
I’m in, I don’t do the facebook thing but I will come back here to check in from time to time. When the time comes I’ll pony up some dough for more Firefly! Who knows maybe this will become a model for great content on the internet. Direct support from interested fans. I think it would benefit both the consumer and producer. It is the ultimate in cutting out the middle man.
I’m willing to kick in some $$ as well.
Best cause ever – would and definitely will totally donate for this.
Seriously, where do I send the check? Never has a TV show been so much fun, and network executives so dumb.
Id be will’n to kick in $50. duster’s and sci-fi no better combo
I recken I could throw in some coin.
I’m in for $100! $100 for some of the best programming in last 30 years? You bet!
I would gladly follow Nathan Fillion to Hell and back with all my fellow Browncoats by my side.
Let’s do this!
Do you think it would do any good to show how lucrative this show can be by promoting the hell out of the science channel re-airings?
I’d pledge $20 to the effort.
So in. So very in.
*fingers crossed*
Own the DVDs and the continued story in comics.
This is something I can get behind. Put me down for $50
I don’t watch normal television anymore. FIREFLY WOULD MAKE ME WATCH NORMAL TELEVISION AGAIN!
Maybe an epidemic of tumorsyphilisitisosis will spur this into action, too…
I would pay to see another movie and then buy the DVD. I’ve bought a few sets of the series and given them out. I’ve bought the film twice on DVD to give away and I’ve bought both on bluray for myself. So count me in.
Count me in for $100, even though it would come out of that month’s grocery budget – I’m good with rice and beans and green tea for the thought of such a dream realized!
Browncoat brothers and sisters, I’m in for $300. You can’t stop the wave.
is there anything like a kickstarter site up yet – or at least something where one could get an overview of pledged money apart from some random comments? having some figures to shove into ppls faces would probably not be a bad idea right now, or else this could die before it even starts properly.
Anyone remember another little low-rated show called Star Trek? If the suits at FOX have any brains they will take it from here and put the show back on themselves.
Captain James T. Kirk was born on March 22, 2228.
Nathan Fillion (AKA Captain Malcolm Reynolds) was born on March 27th, 1971.
Celebrate Captain’s Day on the Friday between (or immediately after) that day! Every! Year! FOREVER!!
And if this works, can we next start on similar efforts for Twin Peaks & Babylon 5?
I am having Gina Torres withdrawals…Please bring this crew back. I too will pledge money to great entertainment. I need to escape from the real world!
I would happily put forward $100 dollars towards more Firefly.
where do I send my 50 bucks?
I would definitely put $100-200 in to resurrect Firefly. Let’s get this pledge drive running already!
I’d gladly pledge a few hundred if there’s some positive reaction from Nathan or Joss.
I am utterly speechless! If it comes back, I’ll start believing in God again!
It’s one of my favorite television shows, and I’ve watched the season 1 on DVD probably 5-6 times now.
You cannot find a set of characters, scene, atmosphere and story similar to this. It’s like the best of all scifi thrown together into a very cosy, friendly, comedic, escapist scifi story.
Oh, and $$ are not an issue, whatever is suitable for another season.
@thoffman and I would put up at least $100, maybe more if fundraising happened during tax refund season!
I’m in! If this really takes off, I volunteer to organise anything for the Singapore fans! My cred? I run the Singapore Glamberts website – Adam Lambert fans in Singapore!
How about using the Kickstarter website to collect pledges for this project? http://www.kickstarter.com/
I’ll be waiting for the next phase!
I would donate!! What ever it takes to get my beloved firefly back, but can we please stop killing people off? I’ll miss those two guys for ever, Wash and Shepherd. The comic books were nice but its nothing compared to having the show back.
I would gladly pledge money to revive Firefly! I would much rather spend my money on this than more of the same-old same-old on tv or at the movies!
I’m good for $100 … or a monthly subscription!!!
I was going to buy a blue-ray player, but I’d rather put my money towards this!
I was gonna buy a blue-ray player, but this is more important.
Please set this up so we can start sending the cash!!
Put me down for $200.
just tell me where to pledge I’m in for $100
Awesome! Sign me up.
I’m in. and will pledge a couple hundred
nothing would make me happier than a long-delayed season 2 of firefly
I will absolutely donate to this!! Good on you, together we can MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
Rhode Island here, wife and I are IN !
I pledge $100.
I’m in for $25, though if I can find a good job once I graduate I could push it to twice or triple that.
Make it so!
I’m pledge $100 and more when Josh or Nathan indicate they are onboard.
A little math – figure $1 million an episode (from wikipedia, the cost of the series Babylon 5 was $90 million for 110 episodes), 25 episodes=$25 million. If there are a million fans worldwide that would be $25 a year each. COUNT ME IN!
I want my Big Damn Heroes back! I’m in, this is brilliant!
I love Firefly. It’s the only sci-fi series I’ve ever loved. Joss Whedon is a genius…writers from that show are geniuses. I’d love to pick someone’s brain apart.
I’m down to pledge a couple hundred bucks.
Count me in for $50. And maybe, just maybe this WILL be the next thing in media and I can work on getting Caprica back as well!
COUNT ME IN! Argueably the greatest tragedy in Science Fiction was losing firefly in the first place. It is amazing how incredibly stupid and incompetent Hollywood producers can be.
If the cap’n gives the go, I’m in for $150
I pledge $50.00 if this happens!
You got $25 from this browncoat. More if this gets off the ground.
i got a hundred on it.
I’m in. Give the word Captain and we’ll make it happen!
I would volunteer! Just give me $10/week! I’ll live off spaghetti and sleep on set (it would be so cool to live in serenity)
Count me in! I’d pledge a few hundred dollars for this, just tell me how. Until then, I’ll be in my bunk.
I’ll pony up, but only if they can figure out a way to bring Wash back.
I would totally pay to get Firefly back. Hell, I would sell my mother and my first born! I could give at least $100. I can eat Ramen noodles for a week or so.
Of course, I’m in.
$100 from me. I may even up it as time goes by…
If fans put up the money for the show then they own the rights to the profits. Therefore, make it so that everyone that donated is able to get their money back and, once that is done, direct the future profits to hiring administrators to achieve solvency for the program and to the non-profit that helped to bring in the donation pledges.
I’d gladly donate $100.00 to start.
I would pay $100 per episode
I will definitely pledge something. $5 at least from a poor college student. More if I can land a job with my degree.
I’m down for $150
$50 from me!
I’ll pledge $150 for this!
There’s a really good writer who’d like to help out with the financing too! http://blog.patrickrothfuss.com/
I’m in for $100. Best money I’d spend all year.
Do we have some posters to spread some love around the cities? Can we make some banners to link to? Keep sending waves and stay shiny!
Put me down for $200 should this happen.
This wave pledges $100. I’m sitting at my computer screen with a smile humming, “The hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne”.
Someone want to write of a version of the song as our movements theme? “The hero of Browncoats, the man they call Nate” (does anyone call Nathan Fillion, “Nate”)
I’m in. Let’s make this happen!
This has made my day, PLEASE PLEASE lets make this happen.
I would love to see the show return, or even a second film… I’m definitely not wealthy, but I’d give $50-100 if I thought it might make a difference. The ship would need a new pilot, which is unfortunate, but if most everybody else is on board, that would be more than enough.
I’m in for $100.
I pledge $100 if anyone can pull this off.
I would suggest as a practical matter that you guys tweak your goal. Trying to raise enough money to acquire the rights to Firefly is a fairly impractical financial goal, even with a huge Facebook group. It would make more sense for the campaign to focus on getting the Syfy channel to pick up the creative rights for a relaunch. Syfy purchased the syndication rights to Firefly recently (they’re going to rerun the old episodes), and Syfy already has a precedent for relaunching/re-imagining shows a year or two after it’s picked up the syndication rights to the originals (Battlestar Galactica, Being Human).
I’m totally down for this. Count my pocket book as willing to shed some weight for this project.
Both me and my gf would pledge at least $100 each if this flies. Probably more than once.
Not really a Browncoat, not on any forums or in any groups, but I did buy the DVD collection, and some special edition one twice, and Serenity on DVD and Bluray.
It was a great show. Why can’t we have more of it? I don’t understand…
Yeah. So basically I’m in for 10 Grand. No joke.
Just saw firefly for the first time over the holidays…amazing show! I now own the blu-ray, and watching a second time. I would love to see more firefly!
Count me in! Would absolutely contribute to this fund if it gets ‘real’. One of my favorite shows EVER!!!!
PhD, Beer Sheva, Israel
I’m in! Let us know when & where to make good on a pledge!
I pledge $100
I’ll wager $200.00 What is the best sci-fi ever?
If we can get this done we could get the mmo going
I would be down for 100.00!
I’m in for at least $100.
Would be awesome, if Firefly was purchased and all money invested from each individual entitled them to an ownership, tv, dvd, web be like a penny stock ya make a fortune from.
At first I was going to pledge $50, but then I saw that this was being set up by nerdfighters. I can pledge $100-$200. DFTBA!
!!!!!!! I’m in for $100!
Whoa!!! I’d be in for big dollars if this takes off…
I’m in!
Suck it, PBS!
Let me know when the pledge system is in place. I’ll support this cause. And, if Syfy is watching … this would be a great show to bring back to production. (Aaron makes a great point.)
I can’t do a lot, but I’m in. Probably $25-30 but I will scrape up more if Wheddon gets involved.
I would be willing to donate for sure, when can we start donating?
I’m in! Put me down for $50
I got $100 min as a pledge. More if needed. Make this happen! Make the only show I really would ever want to watch on TV come back!
Can’t stop the signal! Count me in, big time!
Count me in for $100.
I’m pretty poor right now, but even so if they can bring back Firefly I’ll give $20
I’m in. Somewhere between $50 and $500
Pinch me. Am I dreaming. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Count me in. I’ll donate.
I will donate $100 for my Firefly-themed Android space Captain game, Star Traders RPG.
Bring it on Browncoats!! i’ll put down some dough for sure!
I’m in.
Im in put me down for $100………..long over due to have this series back…How about a movie?
BRING IT BACK.
I PLEDGE £100 TO HELP NATHAN BUY FIREFLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO MOVIE!
WE WANT THE FULL SERIES!!
Legit.
Looks like $100 is the going rate…
I’m in.
I cannot give the money directly since I do not have my own credit card, but I can pledge $100 by proxy through my parents, who can take it out of my bank account.
Hell, if we can be promised at least ten episodes, I will pledge $200.
I’m in for $50
Also, got to find a way to write Alan Tudyk back in…of course. But not a dealbreaker.
Count me IN!!!
I will give as much as I can.
I’d give 100$ for this for sure
Just found this on = http://screencrave.com/2011-02-24/firefly-is-heading-back-to-television/
For those of you who still want to relive the good times from the “Firefly” crew on the small screen, you’re in luck because it’s heading back to television via The Science Channel.
According to IGN, The Science Channel will be airing all of “Firefly’s” episodes starting on Sunday, March 6 at 8pm ET. The network will premiere the original two hour pilot of the series, which will be followed by episode one at 10 PM. After the big debut, the next 14 episodes, will air every Friday in the 10 PM timeslot.
This is a must see for all die-hard “Firefly” fans. If you don’t own the show on DVD (you should) this is the next best thing!
Im in too! LOVED this show!
Can’t stop the signal!!! It may be delayed, but it can’t be stopped!
I seriously HOPE we get some cast, some writers, JOSS!!, to stand behind this movement with us again…
I’m definitely in! And I’m loving the idea of a t-shirt!
Regards, a Danish browncoat!
Has anyone thought about making this an investment opportunity – rather than a donation? I would think that if every super-fan out there actually OWNED a piece of the series, it would increase public attachment to the project.
Just look at those crazy Packers fans…
Count me in.
i would, without hesitation, contribute at least $100 towards this venture… the very idea gives me heart palpatations…
SHINY
I am in for a cool $100 if this gets going and probably a lot more if Joss gets attached to it.
When I woke up this morning I didn’t think I might get to invest in new episodes of Firefly! I am in! I will definitely pay $50 for another season.
I’ll pledge 100 dollars, this show helped get me through my second tour in Iraq.
Get this on KickStarter ASAP. I am ready to donate but I will only donate if it’s on Kickstarter as it’s a more reputable source for sourced funding lately.
$50. Thanks for starting this effort!
I would donate $50-$100 to a movie and $20 per episode quite happily.
However: I think the rewards for levels of donations will go down a bad road.
I’m in. [/Jayne]
I’m in, most definitely.
Why not try to have SciFi end up with the rights? They’ve got a fair amount of money to throw around and not much of it’s doing anything productive. It’d be like how comedy central makes Futurama now.
definetly want to contribute to this, 100-1k $ when this gets a reality
I WANT MORE FIREFLY!!!
I’m so in – £100 for another Season would be so worth it.
I’m in. $100 for now, but I will pick up a lottery ticket or two and let ya know.
If a credible person (such as Joss Whedon) were to be interested in reviving the show, I would kick in. However, I would vote to erase the movie from the collective Firefly memory. It was a waste of a gorgeous mystery to turn River into something so trite as an assassin, & I reject the stupid deaths. To me this was just Joss childishly throwing his toys around. Or pandering to what he imagined was popular taste. I would want the series to pick up where it left off. If some of the actors are unavailable because they’re now stuck in unwatchably crappy other TV shows, write them out in a credible, respectful way.
We should campaign for Spike TV to buy the rights to the show. I think they’d be able to do it justice in the reproduction of the series.
I’m totally in. Where do I donate.
Oh man, I will be so happy when (not if but when) the show comes back. I would be willing to pledge a few bills.
I’m down for $500 if Joss is involved. You need to build a page that can track pledges to get legitimate numbers. Create a Facebook thing so someone can pledge $50 or whatever and it posts on their news feed, “Soandso pledged $50 to put Firefly back on the air!”
Also, I agree with Portia.
This would be AMAZING if it happened. I imagine it would be so hard to get the cast together though. (Inara with short hair could be fascinating..) Anyway, if Nathan and Joss think it’s possible and really get involved, I’d absolutely pledge. Probably around $200 to start. If everyone currently on the facebook group were all to pledge $100, we’d already have 7 million. At least it’d prove to the networks that we’re serious!
I’m in with a $150. Together we can at least try to make Firefly fly again… I’m tired of waiting and doing nothing. What good can come from that anyway? Screw it, I love this franchise and it’s fans.
excellent idea!
sign me on for $100 – all i can afford right now – but would be willing to pledge more once/if i have a full-time job to bring back one of the most creditable science fiction series to come a long in a long time. no rewards necessary. Browncoats Unite!
Awesome! Did you see in this week’s Castle how Fillion made a knowing look when someone said Serenity? Yup. Something in the air…
I am so in!
Count me in. I may be unemployed when this all comes to fruition, but what’s a little plasma between Browncoats, right?
Yessss, let’s get Serenity flying again!!!
I’m in for $100. More if Joss is involved. I’ll donate multiple times, too (each time I get paid) to get this show back!
Please bring it back. Pledge of $200 here, or will pay online subscription service to watch if that’s in the works.
If this simply gives show publicity again, right along with the re-airings on Ovation and Science Channel, then perhaps he won’t need to buy it.
Maybe there will be a spin-off.
I just hope that whatever funds are raised end up going to Equality Now, in that event.
Goram it all! I’m in.
I’m broke (college student, yay!), but I would totally try and pledge a couple bucks an episode to making this happen!
I would gladly put up some cash to get this back on the air.
I don’t know if Adam (Jayne Cobb) Baldwin would come back since he’s doing Chuck but I still would like to see as much of the original cast as possible.
Unfortunately 2 were killed off in the Serenity movie.
Oh well such as life in dark.
$100, and more if I can spare it.
I’m down!
Let’s get this Kickstarted, Browncoats!
I’d put up $500 right now!
What the hell? Advertising dollars+cable TV bills used to pay for shows. Now these schmucks will ^^^^^^. Hollywood has found another way to get $300M from fans. Pay *again* for content you like.
I have no idea how much money I could actually donate, but I do have a background in TV production. I would be more then happy to supply whatever I could afford in terms of a monetary donation, as well as a copy of my demo reel if it would give me the ability to donate my time/effort/production knowledge to this project, even if the only position available was an unpaid internship. Translation: I want to see this project succeed, and what I can’t afford up front in cash, I can more then make up for in production experience/time.
Guys, this is not how you save a series, rallying around a bunch of guys who have no clue what they are talking about. – ‘we are going to remain secret, until the big unveil…” – wow, really. The world doesn’t work that way, you want to get something done, you go through the front-door, in a suit-and-tie, know what the hell you’re talking about, and do a deal. These guys are jokers. Fail.
Firefly was great sci-fi and I would donate or invest. or support
Joss Wheedon or anyone ( with many of the writers and cast-many
who have said they would love to return). It should never have
ended.
Frank- Transendit
Please please please bring it back. I came to it late but loved it. Count me in.
I’m in!!
With all the donations in these comments ending with Dave, we are at $34960, and 200 pounds. That’s using the high side of estimates, and assuming everyone will donate as pledged. Also, I only included pledges that either had a monetary value or a definite numerical value (“couple hundred” – I didn’t include the “several hundred”.)
I’m in, as much as I can spare.
I’m in, but isn’t Wash dead?
Shepherd Book too…
Well actually, the movie was basically the series from beginning to end all jammed into an hour and a half..so we could pretty much pick the series up right where it left off.
I’d donate $50-100. Loved this show and every other show Joss has done. Fox sucks at picking n keeping good shows.
I would donate between 200-1000 for this cause.
Also, I know of about 12 MDs at Indiana University School of Medicine that would match or exceed this contribution.
Where do I enter a pledge? I’m not on facebook and don’t want to be.
I would be willing to donate at least 50$ for the return of Firefly, and I imagine a number of my friends would likely do so as well.
To be honest, if I knew FOR SURE that we would be buying the rights to Firefly, I’d donate ALL of my discretionary income (it will be about $25 per month once I get a job in August) and my current savings ($600) to this.
So that brings our current total (from the comment section of this site alone) to $35,600 and 200 pounds. That’s basically a drop in the bucket, but hey, every raindrop raises the sea.
But seriously though, this needs to happen only with every actor from the original series. With Morena and Nathan currently working full time on V and Castle respectively, the only way this can happen is as a web series that is shot while those shows are on hiatus over the summer.
I’m in – $100-500. Could be history in the making!
I LOVE THIS!. About time fans started working to kick the network geeks out of control so that GREAT TV can come back to TV. I’m in for $100.
I’m with you all the way! I can only hope to fly with the Browncoats again someday
and, if ever possible, I’d LOVE to write music for the show!
Shiny?
Pledge!!!
I pledge 200USD.
So I really really love firefly and i really do want it to come back buuuuut i have to admit I’m torn because I also love Castle I adore Castle and Castle without Nathan would suck especially with the chemistry he has with Stana. Their two characters are AFREAKINMAZiNG! Seriously The beckett castle relationship definetly outways the Captian Inara relationship. SO if you add a clause in about keeping Castle in production then I will totally pledge otherwise Im gonna have to pull a finland and be neutral.
I always new Firefly was special, it touched me and I want more. I’ll support it … With $$$ too.
I didn’t see anything where we could actually pledge, so that’s maybe a good idea to make a special page for it.
Anyway you have my pledge for sure because sometimes dreams come true!
Hope everything goes right and we will see new Firefly soon
I am in for $100. More if Nathan commits. Even more if Joss commits.
I’m in! Absolytelly! 100-200$
YES DO IT!!! IM in!!
Russia’s in, 100% info=) Let’s do it!
I’m in for $200.
It’s on like Donkey Kong.
“when you can’t walk; you crawl.”
“when you can’t crawl, when you can’t do that…”
“You find someone to carry you.”
I think it’s time to carry it.
I’m in
I’m in. I can’t afford much, but I’m definitely in.
I was waiting for Ron Paul to run for president again, but I feel getting Firefly back would be an equally liberating accomplishment, so I’m ready to send my donation money for the show’s rights anytime.
Browncoats for freedom!
I’m spreading it on Yelp too. Other Yelpers , please assist.
I’m in. 200 for the captain.
Browncoats unite once again. This time, we are going to bring back Serenity and its crew.
I’m in for $100
I pledge $50 (Not much but I haven’t got much to spare and every bit helps!)
I’m in for 120 bucks!!
I’m definitely in, as long as jewel is in it, she’s so cute
I’m in.
im totaly on board for this let me know when and where..
“wash” Yes… yes.. this is a fertile land and we shall thrive. We will rule over all this land and call it.. … this land. “
I am so in if this gets serious. Contact me immediately when it does.
While I can’t pledge a definite dollar amount right now, I do a bi-weekly webcomic (Firefly was one of many of its inspirations) and I could promote this on my site and donate my share of the comic’s income (currently through CafePress) for a month or so.
I would easily give $200 and probably even give $500. Would be a worthy investment if this show could get back on air.
I’ve pledged $1000. I’d love to see the relaunched Firefly release for free online under a CC BY-NC-ND license. After all, I’m paying for it.
Seriously, I wonder what Nathan’s termination penalty is for his contract with ABC. It’s not like Castle can keep running if Rick Castle turns into Captain Tightpants again.
Mikkel Paulson
Leader
Pirate Party of Canada
I’ll do it. $100
I’m down
Put me down for $100. An extra $100 if the Shepard let’s his hair out again. Go Browncoats!
I’d definitely be in. Firefly is one of the few TV shows I’ve watched and I was sad when there were no more episodes.
I would be in! I loved that show!
The first step should be say raising 25,000$ and maybe some donate hours from some professionals (lawyers and such) to form the non-profit with employee who donating their time, set up electing a board who time is also donated (elected by donators) and set up the escrow account war chest. Once the board is set up, hire (or approve if they will donate their time) someone to negotiate the cost for buying firefly within a reasonable timeframe, the contract agree to by donator vote. Then start accepting donations for acquiring the rights to firefly. With the ultimate goal of the non-profit owning the rights and the board deciding what to do with the rights and the monies coming in from existing merchandizing and syndication. Ultimately major decisions would be put to a vote of those who donated. If after a couple year of acquiring the rights to firefly, if nothing has come of it, no movie, no books, and no television show. The firefly just becomes public domain and anyone can do whatever they want with the characters.
With the right people behind this, I’d definitely support.
Folks, I hate to be the bummer here, but Nathan does NOT support this idea. From his Twitter:It’s beautiful to dream of more Firefly, but PLEASE DON’T SEND ANY MONEY. Just keep being great Browncoats, which you are!
http://twitter.com/#!/NathanFillion/status/40976112423141376
